Aloha Stadium in Hawaii was the host of this AFC-NFC Pro Bowl. That is no longer true as the match is going to be found at the far less desirable location of Orlando for its fourth consecutive season come late January the week before the Super Bowl.
However, fans in Hawaii will have to find yet another type of meaningless football this Saturday if the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams face off in Week two of the preseason from Aloha Stadium. It’s the very first NFL exhibition game in Hawaii’s biggest outdoor arena since 1976. Playing unique locations throughout the preseason is nothing new for Dallas under owner Jerry Jones since the Cowboys also have played exhibition games in London, Toronto, Tokyo, Mexico City and Monterrey. Guess they aren’t just America’s Team.
For what it’s worth, and I would say nothing, the Rams beat the visiting Cowboys from the Divisional Round of past year’s playoffs, 30-22. CJ Anderson rushed for 123 yards and 2 scores and Todd Gurley 115 yards and a touchdown. Jared Goff threw for 186 yards. Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown. You won’t see any of those guys on Saturday. Anderson is now with the Detroit Lions. Rams coach Sean McVay clearly does not provide a **t on the preseason as he likes to break his key men to ensure health for the normal season. So, no Goff or Gurley (not even traveling to Hawaii to save wear and tear his knee) or NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald or maybe one starter will play. The Rams are 4-5 straight up and ATS beneath McVay in exhibition matches after losing last week 14-3 at Oakland (which you probably saw highlights off “Hard Knocks”).
Blake Bortles began that match to the Rams and has been 3-for-8 for 50 yards and is anticipated to begin again Saturday although likely not play much. The Rams must give the majority of the quarterback slips again to players John Wolford and Brandon Allen. Those two are battling for the No. 3 job. Backup running Malcolm Brown also didn’t play weekly or is predicted to all this preseason. If it comes to the Rams, simply assume no one you have heard of would perform.
Dallas coach Jason Garrett obviously does not take care of the preseason, possibly, according to his 12-22 career straight-up record. The Cowboys were winless at the 2018 preseason and subsequently dropped 17-9 at San Francisco last Saturday. Quarterback Dak Prescott did play a series and led the group to a field goal, completing 4-for-4 for 23 yards. I’d guess he only plays a series Saturday. Cooper Rush and Mike White will see the majority of the time as they battle to win the No. 2 project. Hurry, an undrafted free agent, was with the Cowboys because 2017. White, a fifth-round choice in 2018, was around the 53-man roster last season but has been inactive for every game.
Elliott, of course, stays away in the club requiring a contract extension. There. One of a few other Cowboys who will not play make the excursion: Zack Martin, Tyrone Crawford, DeMarcus Lawrence and Byron Jones.
Together with the holding basically everybody back, can not help but slim Dallas here.
